Abstract:
Acne vulgaris is the formation of comedowns, papules, pustules, nodules, and/or cysts as a result of obstruction and inflammation of pilosebaceous units (hair follicles and their accompanying sebaceous gland). Acne develops on the face and upper trunk. It most often affects adolescents. Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis are common pus-forming microbes responsiblefor thedevelopment of various forms ofacne vulgaris. In Ayurveda it is described under the Mukhadushika or Yuvanapidika which is type of Kshudra-roga.It is generally androgenic disease which is seen at puberty on both sexes. Today due to imbalanced life style (Apathya) and heavy pollution this problem increasingday by day. Guru-ahar, Madhya, Anidra, Upvas,Krodha, Santap, Savbhava are some causative factor of Yuvanapidika. It is generally due to vitiation of Vata,Kapha and Rakta having Shalmalilike eruption on face. In Ayurvedafor the treatment ofYUVANAPIDIKA(Kshudra-roga)mainly two type of Chikitsaare described i.e. Shodhana-chikitsa and Shamana-chikitsa. The Shamana-chikitsaincludes various types ofLepa and Pralepa.In this review article,we tried to highlight Ayurvedic Management of Acne vulgaris (Yuvanapidika)mentioned in Ayurveda with scientific justification.
