Dr. Shakshi Kangotra

Vol. No. 21, Special Issue No 2 2026

Abstract:

Background: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a chronic psychiatric condition characterized by excessive worry, autonomic hyperactivity, and sleep disturbance. Ayurveda describes similar manifestations under Chittodvega.

Objective: To evaluate clinical, sleep-related, autonomic, and biochemical effects of Shirodhara with Brahmi Taila along with Brahmi Vati in a patient of GAD.

Materials & Methods: A 25-year-old female diagnosed with GAD received Shirodhara with Brahmi Taila for 14 days along with Brahmi Vati. Assessment tools included HAM-A, PSQI, HRV, and serum cortisol. Follow-up was done after 1 month.

Results: Significant reductions were observed in HAM-A (26 to 8), PSQI (14 to 4), and Serum Cortisol (18 µg/dL to 10 µg/dL), with sustained Heart Rate Variability (HRV) improvement.

Conclusion: Combined therapy showed sustained improvement in anxiety, sleep quality, and stress biomarkers without adverse effects
