Abstract:
Scarcity of medicinal plants has become a growing concern in the field of Ayurveda and agriculture. AYUSH, which comprises traditional medicinal systems, relies on medicinal plants as an essential source of natural remedies for various ailments. By adopting traditional organic farming practices, the quality and availability of medicinal plants can be improved, ensuring long-term sustainability. Kunapajala is a liquid organic manure mentioned in Surapala Krita Vrikshayurveda, serving as a valuable source of plant nutrition. It has the potential to improve soil fertility, crop productivity, and pest management. However, very few studies have been conducted to assess the efficacy of Kunapajala on medicinal plants. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports available as on date of evaluation of such practices, especially on medicinal plants of high demand like Acorus calamus Linn. In the present study, Vacha cultivation is carried out using both the Kunapajala method and the conventional method to observe the changes produced using different manures. This abstract highlights the need to address the scarcity of medicinal plants through the promotion of organic farming practices, which not only support the conservation of medicinal plant species but also contribute to the production of high yield and quality of medicinal plants.
